Quilting, Shopping and MYSTERY DOLL MAKE OVER!

Hi everybody!

I have been all over the place concerning my hobbies.  While looking for something for one project I found something I was working on a few months ago. This is my first attempt at making a quilt. The pieces came from a bunch of small precut squares for a 1:1 quilt. I know now I need to be careful about the prints and line them up better. I was mostly concentrating on making the seams and the squares even. It does not have backing or fill because it was pretty much for practice. Next I will learn about patterns. This is in 1:12 by the way.

Here is something I have never seen before. It was in Walmart for only $5.00. You of course understand I HAD to get it. I plan to paint it. Probably yellow.  I didn't see the house just furniture for the rooms.  Sorry, it is so dark!I really need to go back and finish that light box!

Apologizing once again for the dark pictures. This was the fourth take. Clicking on them will make them a little clearer.

Mystery Doll make over!

Here she is! I looked into my bag of wigs you may remember from a previous post.  I first tried a black wig, but thought it made her too old. I wanted her to be a sweet little girl. I also have a little information about her. DC 1997 21060 is stamped on the back of  her neck. I could not find the company online. So, I don't know what DC stands for.

I chose a wig I thought went well with her complexion and eye color. It was straight and best suited for a woman until I curled it with the boiling water method. For some reason the pictures don't do her justice of her in  the Auburn hair. She also got some brighter lipstick and a little acrylic rouge on her checks to look more cheery.

I tried this wig first. I thought it made her too mature looking. I wanted her to look like a sweet young girl after all she had been through. I do like it though.

I got an idea for this dress and made it in one sitting.  The plant next to where her right hand is pointing is exactly where she was buried.

I also made her sandals and bows.

I handled her so much I began to muss her hair. It can be touched up again. If it will not stay put I might just switch it back to the black wig. Which do you like best?

There is still one mystery...most people suggested her eyes and mouth were swollen from either being buried or in the rain.  However, her body didn't seem to be swollen at all and they are made of the same materials...

  1. You did a fabulous job on the doll. She looks happier. And the dress is cute. I agree the auburn wig suits her better. She is still a mystery though...this makes for a great book.

  5. You've chosen a lovely wig for her and I think she deserves having the chance to be a nice young girl now. The black wig looks good too... but I agree, it gives her the looks of a young woman. The furniture were a great find... ah, always these temptations with irresistable prices... ;O)

    1. Hey Birgit!
Thank you! Yes, I am going to go back and see what else they may have. I looked up the house and it was $50. It is for a 1:6 doll so I don't think I will buy it...unless it goes on sale for a price I can't resist! lol!

Thanks! Walmart surprises me sometimes with very unusual products!
Right now she sits next to my computer. I makes me know how anyone can change. Even a grungy doll. :-)

    1. Hello There Farrah Lily!
Thanks! Yes, I can't forget about that part either. Sometimes, I think something weird might still happen. Then I look at her sweet face and relax. My grandkids always turned up their faces at her. I wonder what they will say when they see her now. LOL

Thanks! I could not leave her like that even if I didn't keep her. She looked so pitiful.
I hope the furniture will look just as good when I paint it!

  10. A SCORE for you Grandmommy! Yay Wal-mart!!!!
You little lady looks so different with the 2 wigs! I like the curly one best, for no other reason than it reminds me of the curly hair my daughter used to have when she was very young. :))

Thank you so very much. I wonder what Wal-mart is waiting for to go to Ireland! :-)
I wish the photo did justice to her. She looks even prettier up close. Maybe it is the gratefulness that is coming from her!

  14. Hi Grandmommy, the mistery doll looks great now. in fact now that you've painted the lips they look more pouty as they were at the beginning, a bit odd. Anyway you did a great job rescuing her!

  15. Hey there Billa!
Thanks. It was a lot of fun giving her a make-over. I think they look more pouty before I painted them when she has on the black wig. At any rate. I will keep an eye on her to see if anymore changes happen! LOL

  16. I really think I know what doll your mystery doll originally was! I believe she is a Magic Attic Rose doll. Rose is Cherokee. Look at those pictures and see what you think. I don't know what the DC would mean in relation to this doll though. Her face sculpt was done by Robert Tonner.

You are exactly right down to the number of eyelashes (each doll in the series has a different number) I could just hug you...heck, I think I will...{{{hug}}} XXX!

  17. I actually prefer the dark bobbed wig. It makes her look like she's been through a lot and came back stronger. She's all, "Here I am world!"

  18. Muff Hey Lady!
I love the way you think! lol You always give me another perspective! I almost chose the black wig. It seemed she wanted her childhood back so I relented.

  19. She looks great, and i love the dress! I wish I could make tiny clothes (or any sized clothes, lol).

  20. Kat Hi there!
Yes, she looks much better! I have to sew by inspiration. Now my daughter wants me to make her a sundress like Rose's. I might make matching ones for her and her daughter. That one is simple enough I still won't need a pattern.
