Shelve It!

Hi Everybody!

Life should be slowing down in about a week or so. Then I will have more mini time (crossing fingers). I still think of them all of the time even when I can't get to them or blog about them. This post actually took me a week to get up!

I just had to show you this. I have had this idea for a long time. I finally decided to try it. Most of you probably already know about this trick. I wanted shelving and I didn't want to have to do a lot to get them looking right. You know, keep it simple. I also wanted the look of floating shelves with no brackets.

So, I bought some inexpensive microscope slides. The box of 72 came last week. I was anxious to try them out. I had to move everything around in the shops. When I put everything back in place, I know they will look great! Take a look at the shelves all over the place! I only had around 50 slides left within 15 minutes. LOL Perfect! Most of them went into the mall. I did put some in the Chess-taurant, though I really need to fix them better.

Now to order the slide covers for other ideas!

I had to make the pictures somewhat dark in order for you to see the shelves well.
CANDY STORE: I can put so many more goodies here now!

MEN'S STORE: Sorry I had to make it dark so you could see them better.
I also put some on the opposite wall

BRIDAL SHOP: The dove on top looks like he is flying, but he is on the glass shelf

SHOE STORE: On the upper left you can see more shelving.

This will be the new,
JEWELRY STORE:  You can be sure there will be shelves there too!

I do have a few tips for using them.

1. Try to keep them vertical while putting the glue on. I used superglue on most surfaces and just let it slide down the side.   After a few tries, you can do it without it getting glue on the flat shelf surface.

2. Remember you can not reposition if you use superglue so get it right the first time. It wouldn't stick on some wallpaper at all.

3. Once you get  superglue on the sticking side surface, you must clean it off well before trying to
re-glue if it didn't stick the first time. It just won't stick to itself and the other surface.

4. Make sure the side you are gluing is flush against the wall so it won't be slanted when dried.

  1. They look great! And that's a great tip about using micro slides. I will keep that in mind for the tea room/bakery that I'm planning in the back of my mind!

  3. Hi Grandmommy! What a neat trick and what a great effect the clear glass shelves have! You are a brave soul using the super glue! I know that it has an independent spirit and likes to go where it should not! :(( I have used the gel super glue which is a little easier to control. I guess that you could also cut slices into the wall to help support the shelf if you are as inept with the glue as I am. Your shelves all look Wonderful, it is a terrific idea and the great thing is that the glass is all to scale! Well done! :D

    1. Hi Elizabeth!
It was the quickest drying glue I had on hand and I was to anxious to get started to go to the store. I like the gel also and may use it on the next batch. The only reason I wouldn't do the wall in the mall is because I am constantly changing and might need that wall in another way. :-) I really like working with it. It is thin enough for scale yet strong enough not to break too easily. I know the covers will be even thinner.
There are probably lots of uses for them both that I have not discovered yet.

    1. Ilona my friend,
Thank you! That is what made me buy them. I had some lying around for my grandchildren but they had specimens on them for their microscopes. I kept looking at them finally decided to buy them when nothing looked right in the shops. The superglue is messy but holds it really well. I also tried Aleene's but it really takes a long time to dry and I had to find something to prop them on.
Lots of hugs and enjoy your week as well!
      :-D

  12. A good idea. The shelves provide very different effects in the different rooms. a very elegant effect in "men's store" and light and airy in the bridal shop. Thanks for showing.

Thank you and you are welcome! You know I never realized that. You are right they had different effects in each room. That is probably why they didn't look right in certain dollhouse rooms. hmmmm

  15. As someone who worked in store display for many years, I have to say your little stores look awesome with the glass shelves. I have glass shelving in my upper kitchen cabinets (real life) with lights that shine down from above and that would look really cool in miniature, too, I bet!

Whoa, what a compliment! Thank You! I like that idea with the lights. I'll bet that looks great. I have to figure out where my mini world I can use that! I tried putting some in a bedroom, and in my Chess-taurant, but it didn't look right. So, now maybe I will try in the kitchen with some lighting. hmmm Thanks for that suggestion!
