As bloggers, our craft is just a part of having an enjoyable blog. There is another very important part and that is lighting. If we can't get those pictures up and showing just the right lighting our followers can't enjoy the fruits of our labor. So, we are in part photographers as well.
As a novice at blogging with less than one year under my belt, I still find indoor photography challenging. Since I am a blabber mouth and will talk to anyone with at least one ear (that includes my pets and I also know a little sign language lol), I learn so much.
A few months ago, I was talking to an art teacher who was also the yearbook sponsor. After a few question I walked away with new insight and hope. He described a method called three point lighting. I found a site that has helped me somewhat...you will still have to play around with the technique, but it is certainly a starting point. The site has a simulator which was a big help in understanding the effects of lighting. http://www.mediacollege.com/lighting/three-point/simulator.html
This year I plan on making one of these light boxes. Minidork shows an extremely easy way to make one with what you probably have on hand. It even has self-contained storage!

Hope this helps!

The simulator is an awesome aid - really helps visualization of how to apply light sources in one’s own photography space. Thanks for these helpful links.
ReplyDeleteHi Roville!
DeleteYou are welcome. I am so glad you found it helpful! I still need to be patient to get it just right.
Hello Grandmommy,
ReplyDeleteNow I can't wait to see your futur pictures. Proper lighting really does make an enormous difference.
Good luck.
hugs,
Giac
Giac,
DeleteSo far, I still haven't gotten it right. I will keep practicing.
Thanks for the encouragement,
Grandmommy
Major hugs:-D
Hello from Spain: I agree with you that the photos are an important part of our blogs. Thanks for reporting. I will visit these post. Keep in touch
ReplyDeleteHi Marta,
DeleteHope to keep seeing you often.
Thanks for the links about lighting! I could sooo use them.
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize you had a blog so I have to catch up. I'm following you - online, of course, lol. Thanks for sharing.
Hey there D7ana!
DeleteI am glad you found my blog. It is great seeing you. I hope you get good use out of the lighting link!
The simulator is cool. Lighting is always an interesting challenge. There are so many different type bulbs, which completely change the way the pictures turn out. And then there's the room lighting bulbs. Are they fluorescent or soft light, etc. Is it day or night? Truly an ongoing lesson and challenge for me.
ReplyDeleteVanessa,
DeleteI so agree. I hope that link just touched on something that people can use. Maybe I will post more as I learn more. We all learn together to some degree. :-)
Oh yeah, and my point and shoot camera has settings that let me pick what type bulbs I have in the room. I haven't quite figured that out on the DSLR camera.
ReplyDeleteGood Morning, stopping by to say thank you for visiting...I so enjoy reading your comments and visiting with you. Hope you have a very nice week!
ReplyDeleteHugs
Loretta,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. I enjoy your blog also. Whenever I go there I always come away with warm fuzzies. Enjoy your week as well. :-D
Hug and a squeeze!
Hey Grandmommy!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link to my post. The light boxes are so easy to make and really make individual items look fabulous. I use the lighting rig on my dollhouse as well, repositioning the rig to be able to hold three lights.

I will post more photos using the lighting rig, but it really is helping my dollhouse photos look better too. Definitely worth the investment. :D
